According to an article in The Sunday Times, a boring presentation is defined by two factors.

1.     The length of the presentation

2.     The presenter going off on tangents

I am sure you can recall plenty of conferences where a speaker has over-run and the sense of irritation caused. When a speaker over-runs or goes off on tangents, it is usually because they are worried that they have not made their point clearly enough.

Preparation is the key here. Having a clear structure is a great way to keep you on track, knowing exactly where you are with your talk and when and how to move on.

Practice your presentation and film it on your phone to see exactly how long it takes, and notice when you go off track. After all, no-one want to be boring…
